What is your body capable of?
I grew up as a dancer, where I learned many amazing things with my body and also how to judge it dynamically.
To me my body was something that I had to handle, tweak, push, form, maintain, limit, and control.
I would often wake up with inexplicable aches and pains, I battled with all kinds of dieting, and whatever I chose it seemed that there was also something going on with my body. Whether it was random injuries, or life-threatening illnesses there was a non-stop situation I was handling with my body, and I was tired of it. My body and I were rarely at peace with one another, or at least that’s how it seemed.
Until I started to listen. Really listen. And ask. Ask lots of different questions from a different space.
I noticed when I was seeing my body as a problem, something to be fixed, and something I could just not understand. And in those moments I made the conscious choice to be present with that point of view, and ask a question. Look from a different perspective. And above all listen.
See, one thing I had taken for granted is that X-Men have a different way of interacting with the world, and this includes the way they engage with their body.
I was so in the autopilot mode of “I have to fix this problem” that I forgot how to engage with my body in the way I knew how.
So I started, I stopped putting my body off as a priority…and I don’t mean prioritizing workouts, long baths or other things that we DO for our bodies. I’m talking about that I started to be present with my body. I started to BE with it in a different way. And everything started to change. Way faster than I had thought possible, my body shifted and let go of things that apparently I had been the one holding onto!
So, my question to you is, what if having a body was not a curse, or the problem it’s made out to be… what if it could be a gift and a possibility?
What if everything that you had going on with your body was your body giving you information of some sort? And what would it be like to hear those whispers (and often screams!) from your body.
Is now the time to acknowledge what your body is truly showing you and claim your difference?
